Project Summary:

The goals of the Born learning campaign in Clark County are to increase awareness and knowledge among parents, caregivers, childcare providers and community leaders of the importance of early learning and to engage community leaders and service providers in promoting effective early learning policies. The number of children this project plans to reach is 7000+. The number of Families is 13,000+. The number of caregivers is 450+.                        

Children's Village: Supporting Evidence-Based Practice

Project Summary:

This project continued the development of the Early Learning Continuum of Care at Children's Village.
The vision of the project was to build on the current innovated programs aimed at families at risk by serving a larger portion of the population in more areas with a long-lasting impact.
The Early Learning Continuum of Care goals include the following:

1. Provide an innovative service(s) that fills an acute need of families at risk in relation to Early Learning.
2. Plan and develop a continuum of care to facilitate, identify, coordinate, and fund current and new services around Early Learning for families at risk.
3. Provide new innovative services for families at risk as discovered by the planning and development of a continuum of care.

Project Summary:

This proposal has two strategies to address the issues surrounding mental health:

1. To train mental health clinicians who are currently practicing in the field of infant mental health.
2. To increase the awareness of infant/toddler mental health issues for the larger community that that work in early learning and child care.

Project Summary:

This project linked statewide initiatives with local strategies involving early learning care providers, trainers and educators. Strategies included growing family child care provider networks, linking childcare providers, and closing the gap between system development and quality practices at the practitioner level. Estimated number of children served-180. Estimated number of Caregivers served- 480.   
 

Parent Child Home Program

Award Amount: $42, 039

Project Summary:

The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), is designed to help parents be their own children’s teacher.  The program puts high-quality books and toys in the hands of families and models the process of verbal interaction that helps children develop the vocabulary necessary to be successful in school.  The process of reading and playing with their children has also proven to strengthen parent-child bonding.  Collaborating with EPIC, the project will also give parents the support they need to assure that basic health screening needs of their children are also addressed.

Project Highlights:

• During the two years of the grant 6,302 home visits were scheduled with 137 families. Over 99% of scheduled home visits were completed.  Each family was provided with 12 books and 11 toys each year they were in the program.
  

• About 90% of the children completing the PCHP program went on to participate in Head Start as four year olds.  This was a significant improvement.

Promoting First Relationships in Clark County

Project Summary:

Implementing Promoting First Relationships (PFR), in Clark County is a professional development project targeting infant and toddler caregivers in three early learning settings in Clark County. These settings include:

• Clark College’s (Clark) lab school
  
• Educational Opportunities for Children & Families’ (EOCF), Early Head Start program sites,
  
• Southwest Washington Child Care Consortium’s (Consortium) child care programs. 

The project evaluation will be designed and coordinated by faculty at Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV).

Key Project Elements

1. Develop a cadre of eight (8) trainers who will deliver the PFR training curriculum
2. Train a total of 63 caregivers in the PFR curriculum
3. Host family events at each site to introduce the PFR curriculum ideas and practices
   
4. Collect qualitative and quantitative information about the impact of the project.
   

Support for Early Learning & Families (SELF)

Project Summary:

Clark County Support for Early Learning & Families (SELF) is a partnership designed to implement major components of the Clark County Early Learning Systems Plan. The SELF partnership was created to support universal access to high-quality care and build systemic by connecting families and caregivers through neighborhood satellites.

This project, our first Getting School Ready! community effort, has served 5,626 children and each dollar invested by the Foundation for Early Learning has leveraged an additional $4.78 in resources.

Skagit Valley Connections

Award Amount: $3,000

Project Summary:

This award funded a sponsorship of the annual conference Skagit Valley Connections.

More than 30 workshop sessions on every aspect of Early Childhood Education including keynote speakers.  Audience members are parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, Head Start and Early Head Start staff, agency administrators, health care professionals, child care providers, students, and others interested in Early Childhood Education.
