Washington State Refugee and Immigrant Conference
The Washington Refugee and Immigrant Conference is a community-organized gathering of refugees and immigrants, service providers, policy makers, advocates, academics, other interested community members. This year's theme is "Changing Times, Changing Strategies." What new strategies can we (as refugees and immigrants, and those that support them) use to bring about positive social, political and economic change for refugees and immigrants? We envision a community where all refugees are self-reliant and empowered to lead and contribute to their communities.

The conference was originally convened to celebrate the accomplishments of refugees in Washington State. While we still celebrate those many varied accomplishments, the conference has grown into an information-sharing event where participants and presenters come together to develop ways to address the complex challenges refugees and immigrants face in Washington State.
There will be many avenues for learning and sharing at the 2009 conference, including workshops, plenary speakers, social/networking time, and poster sessions. For a list of topics that will be covered at the conference, click here.
This statewide conference will be convened by The Refugee Planning Committee, which is comprised of various stakeholders involved in the resettlement, self sufficiency and well-being of refugees. Many individuals, organizations, foundations, and companies make this conference possible. Click here for a list of the financial contributors who have made this year's conference possible. |
